A 28-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed an Uber driver and then attempted to rob a Family Dollar in North Omaha.
Police responded to the alleged incidents at the Family Dollar at 29th and Sprague Streets shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. According to a press release, the incident began when the man got an Uber ride to the store.
After arriving at the store, the man demanded the vehicle’s key fob from the driver, who was identified as 42-year-old Matthew Tipton. The man then allegedly stabbed Tipton in the neck and chest with a knife.
Tipton was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in serious condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
After the man allegedly stabbed Tipton, police said, he got out of the vehicle and ran into the Family Dollar. He then allegedly held an employee against their will while other employees defended themselves with a metal pole.

Police arrested the man, who was taken to Douglas County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery, two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony and false imprisonment. Police said the man also had two outstanding warrants.
