An Omaha teen and his father appeared in court Tuesday in connection with the city’s first known homicide of 2024.
Amaya
Delvin Amaya, a 16-year-old Westside High School student, is accused of shooting multiple times into an occupied car outside Casey’s Gas Station near 72nd and Grover Streets on Saturday afternoon. Kriss Flores, 30, was shot multiple times and died at the hospital. Angel Moran, 23, and Samantha Fox, 20, sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Amaya is charged as an adult and faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree assault and three counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony. Prosecutors said he was identified as the suspect through witness statements and surveillance footage. On Tuesday, he was ordered to be held at the Douglas County Youth Center without bail.
Amaya-Castillo
Amaya’s father, 46-year-old Mario Amaya-Castillo, appeared in a separate courtroom Tuesday morning. He faces one count of accessory to first-degree murder and is accused of hiding the gun that Amaya used in the shooting.

That gun was later recovered by police, according to testimony from prosecutors. Amaya-Castillo was ordered to be held on 10% of $200,000 bail, meaning he would have to pay $20,000 to be released from custody.
Amaya was on juvenile probation at the time of the shooting for a 2023 misdemeanor assault conviction. In 2020 and 2021, Amaya was also charged in juvenile court with possessing an unregistered firearm and attempted robbery.
Amaya and Amaya-Castillo will both appear in court for preliminary hearings in March.
