A young woman was rescued Wednesday night after she became trapped several hundred feet inside Peppersauce Cave.
The 18-year-old was with friends at the time, according to the Oracle Fire Department. She was trying to crawl through a hole when her leg became wedged.
Her friends tried to free her from the muddy, rocky crevice but were unable to, the Fire Department said.
The Fire Department’s technical rescue team was called out at approximately 8 p.m. It took about two hours to free the teen.
During the rescue there was concern that run-off from the storm would cause water to rise inside of the cave.
The woman did not have enough energy to climb out of the cave once she was freed, so rigging had to be used to lift her up to flat ground.

She was met by her parents who were waiting outside of the entrance of the cave. She did not require any medical attention. Her name was not released.
Peppersauce Cave is a popular tourist destination just off of the Mount Lemmon control road on the northern side of the mountains.
