Training camp hasn’t even started, yet Arizona’s defense keeps taking hits.
The latest development: Junior-college transfer Josh Allen failed to meet the academic requirements to enroll at the UA.
Allen, a defensive end from Long Beach City College, was considered one of the top recruits in the Wildcats’ incoming class. He also plays a position where Arizona needs playmakers.
Allen’s status as non-qualifier became official late last week, a UA spokesman said.
Allen, who redshirted last year, is expected to attend Eastern Arizona College this fall. He could enroll at Arizona in January if all goes well on and off the field. He would have two years of eligibility remaining.

Two other defensive players who conceivably could have contributed this season are no longer with the team: linebacker Derrick Turituri and defensive tackle Anthony Fotu.
The Wildcats are due to report for camp next Wednesday. The first practice is scheduled for the following day.
