Catalina Foothills High School has named Jody Brase, daughter of UA men's basketball coach Lute Olson, as athletic director.
Brase was chosen Friday by the Catalina Foothills School District to replace Terry Lantz, who stepped down last week to take a similar position at Tanque Verde.
"It's something that I've always considered to do in my future," said Brase, 50, who has spent the past 10 years as assistant principal at Orange Grove Middle School. "I've always been connected to athletics in some form."
Brase, who also spent 17 years in the Foothills district teaching physical education and health at the elementary and middle school levels, will be an assistant principal at Foothills. Her main duty will be to oversee the athletic department.
She has knowledge of Foothills athletics, as her two children played basketball at the high school from 1994 to 2000. Julie Brase led the Falcons to the Class 4A girls state title in 1997, and Matt was a standout on the boys team. Both went on to play for the University of Arizona, and Matt is currently an administrative assistant and video coordinator for the men's basketball program.

One of Jody Brase's first tasks when she takes over July 1 will be to fill a number of open head coaching positions. Foothills needs coaches for the boys basketball, softball and boys and girls swimming teams.
