Alyssa Allan scored twice as the Pima College women’s soccer team opened its season with a 4-0 victory over host Yavapai College on Saturday.
Allan scored in the 55th and 88th minutes for the No. 7-ranked Aztecs, who also got goals from Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic) in the 12th minute and Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson High) in the 63rd.
Goalkeepers Angelina Moraga (Sabino) and Vanessa Ceja combined for five saves in the shutout.
Pima’s home opener is against Mohave College (Bullhead City) in a nonconference matchup at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Aztecs then visit Cochise College at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in Douglas and Mesa CC at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.

Men’s soccer
No. 3-ranked Pima opened its season with a 2-0 win over Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday in Thatcher.

Leonel Gutierrez (Salpointe) scored in the 38th minute, and Julius Loeffel made it 2-0 in the 47th minute. Darian Castillo assisted on both goals.
Pima’s nonconference game at Yavapai on Saturday night in Prescott was canceled due to lightning. This week, the Aztecs host the University of Arizona club team in a scrimmage at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. On Saturday, Sept. 5, they visit Mesa CC at 5:45 p.m.
Volleyball
Pima won twice Saturday to close out the Aztec Classic and improve to 4-4 on the season.
The Aztecs swept Highland (Freeport, Ill.) CC 25-17, 25-18, 25-12 and Northwest College (Powell, Wyo.) 25-18, 25-19, 25-18. Victoria Page had 20 kills on the day while Skylar Westburg added 19. Alexandra Jacome (Canyon del Oro) notched 33 assists and seven aces while Breeze Schelter added 28 assists and four aces.
Pima hosts its Alumni Match at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, then opens ACCAC play against South Mountain CC at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
