In his senior season at Sahuaro High School, point guard Cisco Llamas averaged a city-best 24.4 points per game, which put him in historic company. He is now fourth in Tucson prep history in scoring. The leaders:
– Terrell Stoglin: Santa Rita, 2,901
– Chuck Overton: Cholla, 2,535
– Sean Flannery: Salpointe Catholic, 2,332
– Llamas: 2,131
Cisco Llamas earns two points for Sahuaro during the Aztec Holiday Classic at Pima Community College, Dec. 18.
Llamas finished his career with the second-most steals in state history, 541, and the 15th-most assists, 568.
To put his career in perspective, Llamas is probably one of the five or six best basketball players in Sahuaro's rich history (four state championships). He would join Dan Ferguson, 1970, who played at Utah; David Haskin, 1982, who played at Arizona; Gary Lewis, 1981, who played at Texas A&M, and Stevie Williams, 1988, who played at NAU. Llamas is in the conversation with other ex-Cougar all-city picks such as Nate Renfro and Adrian Brown.

Llamas made such an impact at Sahuaro that his coach, Jim Henry, says that Llamas' jersey number, 0, is to be "retired" for now, or at least until Henry is no longer the coach. Sahuaro went 89-21 in Llamas' career. He will play for ex-Cougar Brian Peabody at Pima College next season. My prediction is that Llama will flourish in Peabody's high-octane system and go on to a Division I school after two seasons.
