What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
Last week’s recipient: Michael Tamarack.
Nominated by: Charles Brugler.
Why: For Tamarack’s dedication as a volunteer for Entre Amigos, a social group for people with developmental disabilities. Tamarack has volunteered for the organization since 1999. He helps set up meeting rooms, helps prepare meals, serves meals, cleans the kitchen and puts away all the tables. Without his volunteer work, Brugler wrote that he would have had to end the group’s activities. About 20 members regularly attend the group’s dinners. Tamarack also helps with a developmentally disabled man he knows by taking him to Entre Amigos dinners, monthly dances at Armory Park and other events. Tamarack does not have a vehicle so he gets around by walking or on the bus. He also volunteers with other organizations and activities. “Entre Amigos and the great Tucson community are blessed to know him and his love,” Brugler wrote in his nomination letter.
