Pima County is on track to reach 8,000 foreclosures by the end of the year, says the Pima County Foreclosure Prevention Coalition.
Along with federal agencies, the county is putting together a package of resources for homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgages or are in danger of losing their homes.
At a workshop Saturday, about 50 people gathered at the Ellie Towne Flowing Wells Community Center to hear their options.
Ramona Ball, with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, said the federal government is working with lenders to convert non-FHA mortgages.
She said even if people are upside-down on their homes, they can get help, but must prove their income and show they are able to make their monthly mortgage payments.
Hope for Homeowners will help those who have defaulted on their mortgages, Ball said, but not those who have walked away or lied about their income to get their mortgage in the first place.
