Local outdoor retailer Summit Hut opened its new Speedway store on Monday, completing a move from a smaller store just up the trail.
The new store is at 5251 E. Speedway, between North Rosemont Boulevard and North Craycroft Road, about a third of a mile east of the former location.
Summit Hut will host a two-day grand opening celebration at the new store on Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11.
The grand opening festivities will kick off Oct. 10 with a public ribbon- cutting ceremony with Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, free trekking poles for the first 100 customers, free lunch with any purchase, an in-store appearance by The North Face adventurer Mark Synnott and a happy hour with donations benefiting the Arizona Trail Association. Sunday will feature 20 percent off all items from 9 a.m. to noon, free water bottles to the first 100 customers and a reptile display from the Catalina State Park nature program.

The new location has been extensively renovated to transform the 22,960 square-foot space, adding 40 percent more retail floor area, improved parking, a community room and specialty shops offering additional selections from top brands, the company said.
Summit Hut’s Speedway move is the company’s second in the last three years. In 2013, the company relocated its store at East Wetmore Road and North First Avenue to 7745 N. Oracle Road in Oro Valley.
Summit Hut has been locally owned and operated for more than 45 years.
