Eve Ensler's"The Vagina Monologues" will make Tucson history this weekend.
It will be the first production to grace the Fox Theatre's stage in more than 30 years. (For the record, singer/songwriter Bruce Hornsby was the first performer on the stage of the newly reopened Fox, during the New Year's Eve grand-opening celebrations.)
The benefit performance at 7 p.m. Saturday is part of V-Day Tucson 2006. Dana Cianciotto, who directed last year's sold-out performances of "Monologues" at Club Congress, returns to lead this one, which will feature seven Tucson actresses: Wendy Ascione, Melanie Cooley, Jillian Courtney, Michelle Jones, Mandy Paulson, Lisa Mae Roether and Meg Walker.
Proceeds from the performance benefit Wingspan's Anti-Violence Project, the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault and programs serving World War II-era "comfort women."
