St. Philip's Friends of Music is assembling a Tucson who's who in the brass world for a concert Wednesday that includes two U.S. premieres.
Trumpet Spectacular features trumpeters Jason Carder, Eric Hyland, Edward Reid, David Cohen, Betsy Bright Morgan, Adam Ackermann and Kenny Smukal. Victor Valenzuela chimes in on horn, Scott Black on bass, Homero Ceron on percussion and Jeff Haskell on piano.
The ensemble will perform the U.S. premieres of two works written by University of Arizona prof Haskell - "Tyspomedia," which Haskell penned for the UA Trumpet Ensemble's performance at the 2008 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Banff, Canada; and "Wooloomooloo Overserved," written for the 2010 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Sydney, Australia.
Wednesday's concert begins at 7 p.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. Admission is $15. Details: 299-6421.

Brass band to honor Pearl Harbor victims
The Old Pueblo Brass Band will honor those killed at Pearl Harbor in a concert that also celebrates Christmas.
The British-style brass band, led by Barbara Chinworth, will lead off its Foothills Mall concert tonight with Aaron Copland's solemn ode "Fanfare for the Common Man" and the Navy Hymn.
Holiday tunes include a pair of LeRoy Anderson works - "Christmas Festival" and "Sleigh Ride" - and the ubiquitous "Christmas Song" and "White Christmas." The band also will perform signature British band works and the clog dance from the movie "Brassed Off."
Tonight's concert begins at 7 at Foothills Mall, 7401 N. La Cholla Blvd. Details: 325-1420.
TCA tells Christmas story through traditional songs
Tucson Chamber Artists will perform "And on Earth Peace: Traditional Lessons & Carols,"its annual Christmas concert, twice this weekend.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. Tickets are $20 to $30 online at www.tucsonchamberartists.org or by calling 401-2651.
The song celebration includes Christmas carols and the retelling of the Christmas story in the spirit of the legendary St. Olaf Christmas and King's College's "Nine Lessons and Carols."
