After a five-years-plus absence from Tucson, country music's towering baritone Alan Jackson returns to Casino del Sol's AVA for a concert May 15.
Tickets — $40 to $150 — go on sale Saturday.
Jackson performs in the laid-back style of George Strait. No pyrotechnics or light shows, although his concerts feature video enhancements projected on a big screen on stage. He sings his songs, tips his wide-brimmed cowboy hat and tosses guitar picks to the audience.Â
But for as laid back as he is his audience is fired up from the first note. Women and men alike have been known to storm the stage during the rockers ("Gone Country," "Don't Rock the Jukebox"). Jackson's music is infectious ("Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," "Little Bitty") and dares you to sit for the 75- to 90-minute duration.

Tickets also are on sale for the April 25 Tejano Shootout featuring Michael Salgado; funnyman Gabriel Iglesias's April 26 concert; and the June 29 Gran Festival de Folklor y Mariachi.
Expect Casino del Sol's AVA to announce more concerts early next month to fill out its summer concert series. The series traditionally starts after Easter and continues through October or early November.
