Good soup, good bowl, all-around good cause
Soup’s on at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona‘s annual Empty Bowls Luncheon.
The event, which raises money for the Food Bank, serves up soups created by 25 Tucson restaurants, ladled into bowls created by Marjon Ceramics.
It’s 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m Friday at Mulcahy YMCA at Kino Community Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way. Stop by anytime — no reservations are necessary.
While you get to fill up on soup, you also get to keep that bowl and contribute to an important cause.

The first Monday of the month, Vrolijk will improvise three-course dinners based entirely on his seasonal finds at local farmers markets. Which means you won’t know the menu in advance, but you do know it will be slow and fresh.
The dinners are $35. Add tax and tip on to that, plus the cost of whatever it is you’d like to drink.
Proper is at 300 E. Congress St., 396-3357.
Aw, shucks: It’s time for the Oysterfest
Kingfisher Bar & Grill‘s annual Oysterfest — now in its fifth year — is slated for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
And we do mean “fest”: Shucking stations will be up around the restaurant’s parking lot, and there will be more than a dozen varieties to sample.
Depending on their source, you’ll shell out anywhere from $1.50 to $3.50 for an oyster. And variety is the spice ... oh, you know. So there will also be clam chowder, oyster stew, baked oysters and a limited lunch menu.
Kingfisher Bar & Grill is at 2564 E. Grant Road, 323-7739.
