As of Thursday, registration for Sunday's Race for the Cure in Tucson's Reid Park was 6,065, still short of organizers' goal of 11,000.
Donations combined with registration totaled slightly more than $313,000, well below the event's targeted amount of $700,000. Last year's Race for the Cure Southern Arizona raised $660,000.

The national Komen organization, which raises money for breast cancer research, education and treatment, had a well-publicized split with Planned Parenthood earlier this year, which was later restored. Leaders say the attention on the issue cost them supporters across the country.
