An employee of a Green Valley Wells Fargo Bank was arrested Monday in connection with defrauding a 79-year-old woman, according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.
Francisco Gamez-Hernandez was booked into the Pima County jail on charges of theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and computer tampering.
Green Valley deputies responded to a 911 call at about 9 a.m. on Monday, referencing a theft at Wells Fargo branch at 360 W. Continental Road. Deputies learned that a bank employee had discovered fraudulent activity while reviewing the customer's account.
Pima County Sheriff's Department Fraud Unit deputies responded and took over the investigation, discovering that the suspect targeted the victim because of her age and cognitive disability.
Gamez-Hernandez, who was the victim's personal banker, took out a line of credit attached to her checking account and created a debit card, said department spokesman Deputy Tracy Suitt.

"He changed the pin number on her account and changed the maximum daily withdrawal limit to a much higher amount," Suitt said.
The suspect proceeded to withdraw a total of $5,800 from casino ATMs.
"The fortunate thing is that the bank caught it quickly, before the victim even knew it was happening," Suitt said.
