Students across the city are spicing up the ol' readin', 'ritin' and 'rithmetic routine with talking, texting and iTunes.
They'd be smart to KTR to avoid saying TTFG to their electronic-gadget assortment.
Here are some school district guidelines to help students and parents Know The Rules, so it's not Ta-Ta For Good to the cell phone, iPod or Game Boy at school:
Tucson Unified
TUSD enforces a districtwide policy that allows high school students to use cell phones during lunchtime.
• Cell phones and other electronics may be used on campus before or after school.
• Elementary and middle school students may not use cell phones or other electronic devices during lunch.

Amphitheater Public Schools' policy covers all schools in the district and allows students to carry and use cell phones and other electronic devices at school, but individual schools and teachers can set their own rules and restrictions. The district recommends students leave personal electronic devices at home.
Catalina Foothills
The district has a policy that prohibits cell-phone use on most campuses and all school buses. Catalina Foothills High School does allow students to bring cell phones and other electronics on campus.
• If the device is permitted, students must shut it off unless an administrator has authorized its use.
Flowing Wells
The district's cell-phone and electronic-devices policy has few restrictions in high schools and middle schools. Cell phones and electronic devices are prohibited on elementary school campuses, but the items are usually not an issue at that age level. Some other rules:
• High school and middle-school students can possess cell phones and pagers, but they must be turned off during class.
• Other electronic devices, such as tape recorders and iPods, fall under the same guidelines as cell phones and pagers.
• Handheld video games are considered a nuisance item and not permitted in school.
• Electronic devices can be confiscated at any time if they are disruptive.
Marana
Marana Unified School District has a districtwide policy prohibiting the use of electronic communication devices at all times during school hours. The district suggests students leave such devices at home. The policy doesn't address other gadgets such as iPods and handheld video games, and each school has its own restrictions regarding those items.
Sahuarita
• Sahuarita High School and Sahuarita Middle School have individual policies, but both schools have banned the use of all electronics on campus.
• For both schools, cell phones, iPods, laser pointers and other electronics are strictly prohibited on school grounds.
• Teachers and staff at both schools will confiscate any items they see. They will only be returned to a parent or guardian.
Sunnyside
The district does not have a policy. It is developing a policy, but for now, schools and teachers set their own rules.
Some enforce ban; others allow limited use
