A female teacher at Salpointe Catholic High School resigned Friday after being questioned about allegations of a sexual relationship with an underage male student, a police report says.
Salpointe administrators first received reports of sexual misconduct by the teacher with the student on Thursday, but they didn't notify police until Friday, a Tucson Police Department report said.
"We are all saddened and humiliated by the possibility that one of our students may have been the victim of inappropriate behavior by a teacher, and we are offering the student and the family whatever assistance we can," the Rev. Fred Tillotson, head of the school, wrote in a letter sent Monday to parents.
The police report said allegations were made that the student and the teacher were dating and their relationship was becoming increasingly physical.

Administrators confronted the teacher on Thursday, prompting her resignation on Friday, the report stated.
Police obtained a search warrant for the teacher's home, in which evidence was collected, the report said.
The teacher's name was not released. Information on how long she had worked at the school and what subjects she taught was unavailable.
No arrests had been made, and police were continuing their investigation at Salpointe, 1545 E. Copper St., near North Campbell Avenue and East Grant Road, said Sgt. Decio Hopffer, a police spokesman.
Tillotson's letter said Salpointe is bound by the school's sexual-misconduct policy and by law to contact police and Child Protective Services.
The letter offered parents advice on how they should react to the allegations.
"We ask you to resist gossip," Tillotson's letter said. "As Christians, we are not free to willfully smear another person's name. Therefore, please also understand that Salpointe teachers cannot comment on this incident."
Officials with the school could not be reached Monday night for comment.
