Two armed men assaulted a taxi driver and shot at his car during an early Sunday morning attempted robbery.
The driver was responding to a call for a fare pickup near North Westmoreland Avenue and West Alameda Street just before 5 a.m., according to a Tucson Police Department news release, when two Hispanic men entered the cab.
The men produced guns and demanded money, the release said.
One of the suspects struck the driver, who then began to drive away, prompting the men to jump out of the vehicle. They fired at the taxi as it sped off, the release said.
The driver was able to make it to a safe location and contact the police. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The two suspects could not be located by responding officers and are considered armed and dangerous, the release said.
