A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash just after midnight Saturday morning at East Speedway and North Richey Boulevard, police say.
A silver 2021 Hyundai Tucson was trying to make a left turn from westbound Speedway onto southbound Richey when it was struck by the eastbound motorcycle, which was speeding, police said in a news release.Â
The motorcyclist, Jaycob Christopher Nieto, was taken to Banner University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, they said. Â
Police said investigators determined the 60-year-old man driving the Hyundai was not impaired. That driver's failure to yield while making a left turn, and "excessive speed" by the motorcyclist, were the major factors in the collision, police said.
The investigation continues and no charges or citations have been issued.
