Most Denver football fans were unhappy to see their Broncos dominated by the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night, but Mark Sarnowski was absolutely elated.
Sarnowski, 51, a Cheektowaga native, is president of the Colorado Bills Backers.
He watched the game with about 40 other Bills fans at a Denver night spot called Ester’s Pub, and they couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.
“Congrats to the Bills … this has been such a long time in coming,” Sarnowski said in a post-game telephone interview with The Buffalo News. “Believe me, the Labatts beer has been flowing here. So is the Crown Royal Whiskey. I can’t wait to see how far this goes with the Bills.”
Sarnowski, a construction project engineer, moved to Denver in 1993 after losing a job in Buffalo. He enjoys Denver, but has never lost his devotion to the Bills.

He started the Colorado Bills Backers in 1999. He said the organization has about 4,000 members, including about 800 who are actively involved.
If not for Covid-19 safety precautions, Sarnowski said there would have been a much bigger crowd watching in the Denver pub as the Bills clinched their first division title since 1995.
“Usually, when we get together, we pack a place,” he said. “Four to five hundred people.”
He said he’s extremely proud of this year’s Bills team, especially quarterback Josh Allen.
“Josh knew he had some problems with his mechanics, and he and the organization went to work and found a way to fix it,” Sarnowski said. “That’s the mark of an elite quarterback.”
