A moviegoer’s presence of mind — even after being robbed at gunpoint — and a fast, coordinated response led Sheriff’s deputies to arrest a suspect just 12 minutes after the victim reported the crime Saturday night, authorities said.
It all started when a man held a woman at gunpoint and demanded money, said Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The woman, who was leaving AMC Foothills theaters at the time, gave the gunman what she had.
“But she still had the wherewithal to get a good description of the vehicle and of the license plate,” Bañuelos said.
She called authorities at 6:06 p.m. and gave them a thorough description of the vehicle, along with detailed information about the attack. Two minutes later a deputy showed up, interviewed the victim and immediately shared the gunman’s vehicle description.

A few minutes later, deputies stopped a vehicle that matched the assailant’s description. The man was arrested at 6:18 p.m., Bañuelos said.
Deputies expect the man, who is in his 20s and has not yet been identified, to be charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault, Bañuelos said.
