More than 100 people will be recognized today by the Pima County Sheriff's Department for acts of heroism, outstanding service and injuries sustained in the line of duty during its 21st annual awards banquet.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon Way, at 5:30 p.m., a Sheriff's Department press release says.
The honorees will include Sheriff's Department employees as well as other people.
One of those to be lauded is Deputy Brad Judd, who on July 31 saved the life of a jogger who ran into Sunrise Drive where it was flooded by the rushing Esperero Wash.
Judd was in the process of closing off the road, and he warned the woman not to enter the flooded section. However, she didn't obey and was knocked off her feet and swept into a culvert by the swift water.

The woman was submerged and was struggling to keep her head above water when Judd waded into the waist-deep water and pulled her to safety.
For his actions, Judd will receive the Public Safety Achievement Medal, the news release says.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department Citizen's Medal will go to University of Arizona President Peter Likins for his service to the UA and to Pima County, the release says.
