A Pima County sheriff's detective accidentally shot himself in the leg while getting ready to attend a firearms qualification Wednesday afternoon.
Detective Kurt Dabb was taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, said Deputy Jason Ogan, a department spokesman.
At about 1 p.m. Northwest Fire crews went to a house near North Oracle and West River roads and transported Dabb to the hospital.
Dabb was at home getting ready for a firearms qualification event later Wednesday when the weapon accidentally discharged, Ogan said. It was unknown if the firearm was a personal weapon or a county-issued gun.

A man was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street Tuesday night and died at the hospital.
Richard Carl Regnier, 45, was crossing an unlit portion of East Fort Lowell Road near North Fox Avenue about 8:30 p.m., said Sgt. Diana Lopez, a spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department.
Fox Avenue is between Tucson Boulevard and Country Club Drive. The driver apparently did not see Regnier in the street.
Regnier was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.
The police investigation continues, but no citations have been issued and it did not appear speed or alcohol played a part in the accident, Lopez said.
Loughner's team tries to restrict med data
Lawyers for the suspect in the Tucson shooting rampage have asked a judge to reject prosecutors' request for his medical records.
Prosecutors requested Jared Lee Loughner's records so they can be used by a psychologist who is conducting a mental competency exam of the suspect at a federal medical facility in Missouri.
Loughner's attorneys said U.S. District Judge Larry Burns should issue an order saying the documents can be used for determining his mental competency and for no other purposes. The exam is aimed at determining whether Loughner understands the consequences of the charges he faces and can assist in his defense.
Loughner has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to the Jan. 8 attack that killed six and wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 12 others.
