As an affiliate of the University of Arizona, the Arizona Senior Academy at Academy Village presents a smorgasbord of lectures and cultural programs throughout the year. None draws a larger audience than the concerts featuring the faculty and graduate students of the UA's School of Music.
If you love classical piano, you won't want to miss Sangjoon Park, who is enrolled in the doctoral program in piano performance.
At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Park will play a recital at Academy Village, in the Arizona Senior Academy Building, 13715 E. Langtry Lane. It is free and open to the public but reservations are recommended; email info@arizonasenioracademy.org or call 647-0980.
Born 32 years ago in Jeonju, South Korea, Park began his piano studies at the age of 8. When he turned 13, his parents and teachers encouraged him to pursue a musical career. "I was patient for a young person," he said, "and they decided my nature was good for music."
