With eight schools scheduled to be closed in the fall, the Tucson Unified School District is turning to the public to help determine the future of the sites.
Applications are now being accepted for the School Sites Tomorrow Advisory Committee, which will review proposals for the facilities to help ensure that they support the district's objectives, are cost-effective and are compatible with the surrounding neighborhood.
The committee will meet at least monthly to provide information that will be presented to the Governing Board at the completion of the project, which is expected to last approximately six months.
Applicants should have an interest in the future of their neighborhood and education in their community.
Specific expertise in the following areas, though helpful, is not required: community education, evaluation of land use plans, construction, historic preservation/repurposing buildings, consensus building, development of requests for proposals and evaluation of proposals, and real estate.
