Twice a year, Therapeutic Riding of Tucson presents Family Fun Day.
The event takes place after each riding semester, which usually includes about 350 people. This semester's event was held Saturday at 8920 E. Woodland Road, near East Tanque Verde Road and Catalina Highway.
TROT also held a rummage sale to benefit its therapeutic programs for children and adults with special needs. In conjunction with the event, children collected pledges from friends and family to ride out on the trails at the TROT property. They turned in their pledges to compete for prizes, raising more than $5,000 for the program.
"They're doing the things they've learned at TROT," said Leslie Esselburn, executive director.
"We give prizes to the top four pledge donors," she said in a phone interview after the event. "This year the top prize winner raised more than $1,500 and she won a pink cowgirl hat and pink cowgirl boots."

The winner was Jenna Friedman, 7.
Esselburn said the program teaches participants riding skills, which helps them to improve strength, muscle tone and coordination.
This year was the first time for the rummage sale, which raised an additional $1,000 for the riders and their equipment, she said.
