Children regularly squeal with delight as yet another bucket of water falls on them at the Brandi Fenton Memorial Park Splash Pad.
The splash pad, which opens in April each year and closes on Halloween, offers relief from the summer heat to children 12 and under and adults who accompany them.
"It's too hot to take her to the park," Adella Mason said last Thursday of her 2-year-old granddaughter, Keegan Leek.
"I bring her here because she loves it. It gives her a chance to interact with the other kids."
Parents cool off in the shade around the splash pad, supervising their children as they bound through the spraying water.
"It's fun," laughs Araceli Fuentes, 8. "I like the buckets of water."
The splash pad opened on Brandi Fenton Family Fun Day in spring of 2007, according to recreation superintendent Joe Barr.
