Kristen Sawyer looks back on her years at St. Gregory College Preparatory School in Tucson and knows she received more than just rigorous academics - she was prepared for life.
"St. Gregory was and remains a place of inspiration,'' said Sawyer, who graduated from St. Gregory in 2008 and went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is now an elementary school teacher in Phoenix through Teach for America.
"We all had teachers who taught us like parents, friends who reminded us of who we were and who we wanted to become, and inspiration from everyone around us to push ourselves to think deeper and connect to the surrounding world," Sawyer said.
St. Gregory families, alums, faculty and the community will come together Nov. 3 at The Sip for St. Gregory - Shake Up the Night, raising money to provide need-based scholarships to students. Forty percent of students at St. Gregory receive financial assistance.

Pam Bass, chairwoman of The Sip and a St. Gregory parent, said the event makes a St. Gregory education possible for many Tucson families, especially in a challenging economy.
"It's an evening of delicious food, a fabulous auction and great fun, all for a good cause," she said.
Since 1990, The Sip for St. Gregory has generated more than $850,000 in scholarships for the independent school that has no religious affiliation.
Martini tasting, international tapas, silent auction and live music by Jazz Telephone are all part of the event at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.
"The Sip for St. Gregory allows the school to provide outstanding educational opportunities to highly deserving students in Tucson," said Rachel Villarreal, director of development at St. Gregory.
