Republican U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani was ahead of Democratic challenger Kirsten Engel after another lead change in the Tucson area’s 6th congressional district race.
By Friday evening, he had 1,560 votes more than Engel, as the vote counting continues. Ciscomani had 49.1% of the votes tallied so far to Engel’s 48.6%.
Ciscomani and Engel keep swapping slim leads in their rematch. He narrowly defeated Engel, a former state senator, in the district two years ago.
In the race for Arizona’s open U.S. Senate seat, Democratic U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego held his lead despite Republican Kari Lake gaining ground.
By Friday afternoon, Lake trailed Gallego by 36,748, down from his margin of just over 50,000 votes the day before.
The legislative races in Tucson-area District 17, as of Friday afternoon, had Democrat John McLean outpolling Republican Vince Leach by 509 votes for state Senate.

Kevin Volk’s lead maintained his lead in the race for one of two state House seats in LD 17; he had received about 35.4% of votes counted so far. Republican incumbent Rachel Jones is in second with nearly 32.9% of the vote while Republican Rep. Cory McGarr is in third, taking just over 31.7%
County races
According to the Secretary of State’s “Ballot Progress” page, there were an estimated 106,241 “uncounted ballots” in Pima County as of Friday afternoon.
The tightest race in Pima County is for the District 4 seat on the Board of Supervisors.
Steve Christy, the sole Republican on the board, who is seeking his third term, led Democrat Vanessa Bechtol by 2,208 votes as of Friday afternoon. Christy had received about 51.2% votes counted.
In the race for Pima County sheriff, Democratic incumbent Chris Nanos has maintained his lead over Republican challenger Heather Lappin.
Nanos had received about 51.1% of votes counted as of Friday afternoon, a margin of 8,161.
Democratic Supervisor Rex Scott declared victory Friday morning in his District 1 rematch against Republican challenger Steve Spain. As of Friday afternoon, Scott had received about 54.5% of the vote, leading Spain by a margin of 9,076.
In 2020, Scott beat Spain for the seat by just 730 votes.
