A misfortune in your life could fetch you a break on your taxes.
Widows, widowers and people with disabilities who meet certain income thresholds may qualify for a property tax exemption on their primary residence within Pima County.
"This exemption is really quite popular and provides some financial relief for folks out there who are dealing with challenges in their lives," said Pima County Assessor Bill Staples.
Jennifer Walker, a senior advocate with the nonprofit Pima Council on Aging, said that just this month a client mentioned that the assistance helped her keep her house.
The application for the exemption must be filed in person the first time. Once qualified, the applicant is not required to file an annual affidavit unless there is a change to the original qualification requirement.
