Outspoken conservative talk show host Jon Justice underwent his second open-heart surgery in three years. There's no set day for his return yet.
In a YouTube video, Justice said he underwent open-heart surgery in 2009, following a heart attack, to replace his aortic valve and fix an aneurysm. Justice suffered further heart troubles and checked into the hospital.
His station, KQTH 104.1-FM, has adjusted its schedule, adding another hour of the syndicated Neil Boortz radio show while expanding the program hosted by James T. Harris and having Ed Martin fill in for Justice.
Justice has been tweeting and updating his Facebook page during his hospital stay, as well as calling into the station to speak on-air.
"I am absolutely overwhelmed at the outpouring of prayers and well wishes for me and my family. Journal Broadcast Group has 100 percent supported me again during this hard time," Justice told me via email from the hospital after the surgery.
Former Tucsonan gets Nickelodeon show gig
Actress Janet Varney, a 1993 Rincon High School grad, has landed an impressive gig. The former TBS "Dinner and a Movie" host, who appeared in the family film "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer" last year, is voicing the title character in the Nickelodeon action/adventure show "The Legend of Korra."
A follow-up to the mystical "Avatar: The Last Airbender," the show centers around the exploits of a teenage warrior who has the ability to control the elements to combat evil.
The show debuted Saturday. You can catch the next episode at 11 a.m. Saturday on Nickelodeon.
Varney has also started a podcast dubbed "The JV Club" at nerdist.com
Huckabee show hits air
Fox News Channel pundit and former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee started a radio show earlier this month, and it's airing 10 a.m. to noon on KVOI 1030-AM.
KVOI is one of dozens of affiliates nationwide to pick up the show, which bumped Dennis Prager's syndicated show to evenings.
"Many have called to ask what happened to Dennis Prager," said Doug Martin, President and General Manager of Good News Radio Broadcasting, parent of KVOI, via email. "I have had others who don't listen respond very favorably looking forward to listening to Mike because of his easy-going style."
