Café Poca Cosa moves, now open in parking garage
Café Poca Cosa had to move out of the Clarion Santa Rita Hotel & Suites, 88 E. Broadway, after 17 years because the former hotel is being redeveloped. The new site for the restaurant, 110 E. Pennington St., is on the ground floor of the Pennington Street Garage at East Pennington Street and North Sixth Avenue. It opened at the new location on Thursday.
Owner-chef Suzana Dávila opened the restaurant 20 years ago at 20 S. Scott Ave. She moved to the Santa Rita three years later. Her sisters, Sandra and Marcela Dávila, still run the Little Poca Cosa, at 151 N. Stone Ave.
Rio Nuevo redevelopment officials knew of Dávila's challenges in finding a new Downtown location and proposed the Pennington Garage to her while it was in the early stages of construction.
The 750-space garage is a 24-hour parking structure. There is 12,000 square feet of ground-floor office and retail space, a 60-kilowatt photovoltaic system on the top that produces solar power for the garage and the electric grid that was paid for in part by Tucson Electric Power and designed by American Solar Electric Co. of Phoenix.
Hours for Café Poca Cosa are: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
