A whisper-quiet jet soared past the crowd at speeds up to 100 mph, one of three ducted-fan jets flown during a demonstration Sunday at the second annual Buy, Build and Fly event hosted by the Sonoran Desert Flyers.
Bob Schumann got the idea for the event after watching parents and grandparents buy new radio-controlled aircraft for their children and grandchildren.
Turns out, though, that people of all ages gathered at Naranja Park, located at 660 W. Naranja Drive, to learn to fly RC craft.
"We teach people to fly all the time," said Schumann - if you missed the event this weekend, you can show up at the park virtually any Saturday or Sunday and you'll likely find club members who will be happy to teach you how to fly.
Naranja Park is the only park in Oro Valley where pilots can legally fly electric aircraft.

The Buy, Build and Fly event is a pilot program that was started by the Sonoran Desert Flyers, but the Academy of Model Aeronautics is considering offering it in cities nationwide.
