PCC adds 3 new GED testing sites
Pima Community College has expanded its GED testing sites to three more campuses, including the Northwest Campus at 7600 N. Shannon Road.
Previously the test was only offered at the college's Community Campus, 401 N. Bonita Ave.
The expansion was approved by the Arizona Department of Education and also includes the Desert Vista Campus, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz, and the East Campus, 8181 E. Irvington Road.
The registration fee to take the GED is $100.
A study from the department of education determined that Arizona adults who passed their GED tests earned about $8,580 more per year.
GED preparation classes are available through PCC Adult Education.

Pusch Ridge team to be honored in Phx.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's varsity softball team will be recognized Saturday at the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Oakland Athletics game in Phoenix.
The team is being honored for winning the Division Four state softball championship in May.
Andrea Hendrickson, the assistant coach at Pusch Ridge, said the recognition will take place before the game's start at 7:10 p.m.
Chase Field is at 401 E. Jefferson St. in Phoenix.
MUSD will let parents preview textbooks
Five textbooks that the Marana Unified School District is considering using are available for preview by parents of MUSD students at the district's Office of Professional Practice, 11279 W. Grier Road.
"Statistical Reasoning in Sports" by Josh Tabor and Christine Franklin, will be available through July 11.
The following books will be available for review through July 17.
"Dental Assisting: A Comprehensive Approach" by Donna J. Phinney and Judy M. Halstead; "Dental Instruments: A Pocket Guide" by Linda R. Bartolomucci Boyd; "Fundamentals 1: Introduction to Dental Terminology, Charting and Procedures" by Ann Ehrlich; and "Phlebotomy Essentials" by Ruth E. McCall and Cathee M. Tankersley.

Golder Ranch fire, OV police join forces
More than 40 15- to 20-year-old Oro Valley residents are participating this week and next in the first explorer academy held jointly by the Oro Valley Police Department and Golder Ranch Fire District.
The program is meant to show participants what is required to be a firefighter or police officer.
It includes training in DUI stops, crime-scene evidence and domestic-violence resolution.
The explorers will continue to build on what they've learned at the academy throughout the year, with subsequent ridealongs with host organizations and a live fire exercise in June 2013.
