Marana teen starts running group
Marana teen Eli Barnett started the running group Runners of Continental Reserve, a group that meets to run three miles weekly, in mid-September.
Barnett, a 16-year-old Marana High School sophomore, is trying to draw new members to the group, which started out with five or six. Ages of current group members range from the mid-teens to the 40s, but it's open to runners of all ages and experience levels.
Runs are at 7 a.m. Saturdays at Continental Ranch Urgent Care, 8333 N. Silverbell Road.
"It's a lot better to run with a group of people that can motivate you to help you keep your pace," Barnett said. "It's easier to not get so discouraged."

Students qualified for the honor - shared by about 55,000 students nationwide - by scoring well on the PSAT/NMSQT test. To qualify as finalists, they'll need to complete an application, write an essay, become endorsed and recommended by a school official and score highly on the SAT. Finalists will be notified in February.
