I adopted my grandchildren when they were very young. While researching preschools, I was disheartened to learn that high quality child care had become unaffordable for many families with preschool-age children.

Child care is my largest expense – double the cost of rent. My income disqualifies us from receiving scholarships or assistance, yet is insufficient to cover the full cost of child care. The small adoption subsidy we receive does not make up the difference, so I often struggle to afford it.

I recently learned of the Strong Start Tucson effort and am proud that Tucson residents have begun working together for a solution that will provide more families with the opportunity for high-quality child care. I can’t think of a better reason to support a small additional tax and hope that other grandparents, parents and Tucson residents will join me in voting for Strong Start Tucson when it appears on the ballot next year.
