Killing “post-birth” embryos
I confess that I am am usually at a loss to understand the moral stances of Christians who want to impose their religious beliefs on others. However, I am totally flabbergasted by the rush of said believers who embrace the “personhood” and legal rights of an embryo but believe it is okay to destroy said embryonic “persons” in the IVF process. To me, this moral stance is no different than parents deciding that they will kill four of their living, post-birth children to give an embryo a chance to have more family financial resources and enjoy a better life. I fail to comprehend the moral and legal differences.

Eyes and ears open
During the 1930s our country was overwhelmingly concerned about the spread of communism, so our country ignored what the Nazis were doing in Europe. Currently our country is overwhelmingly worried about immigration and hordes of undocumented, so our country is not paying attention to the enemies within. Citizens pitted against each other. It is a strategy of divide and conquer by one wing of the Republican Party.

Stop the fascists
Subject: Stop the fascists. Old white people are not the majority anymore.
Hey Seniors, even Republicans! Think. Republicans don’t give a damn about you. Vote for Biden and Harris.
Every one of Trump’s budget proposals while he was president called for cuts to Social Security:
LA Times in 2020: “Trump’s [2021] budget proposal shreds Social Security and Medicaid benefits”
Vox in 2019: “Trump said he wouldn’t cut Medicaid, Social Security, and Medicare. His 2020 budget cuts all 3”
Center for American Progress in 2019: “The president’s FY 2019 budget breaks President Trump’s promise not to cut Social Security”
Vox in 2017: “Donald Trump’s [2018] budget proposal breaks his promise to not cut Social Security”

Return to sanity
To the letter writer who has pronounced that Republicans are immoral and don’t know right from wrong I would say he and the Democrats have a lot of soul searching to do. The moral, know-right-from-wrong Democrats have given us open borders, legalized drug use, defunding police, rampant escalating crime, boys using the girls’ bathroom, and inflation.
Democrats give us such politicians as AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rasheed Talib and Cori Bush who are nothing but Jew-hating, socialist traitors. If we want to talk about immorality and right and wrong let’s look at Bill “I didn’t have sex with that woman.”
The bottom line is that civility, compromise and wisdom have left American politics. Radicals on both left and right use instead a philosophy of “my way or the highway” is the norm.
America’s survival depends on cooperation. Let’s get rid of radicals, blame games and hostility via the ballot box. We surely can do better than Trump, Biden, Harris, the Squad, Boebert, Green and Lake.

Plan on using immigrants for votes
Re: the March 25 article “Democrats plan to use illegal immigrants to win votes.”
Kudos to the Daily Star for publishing Gary Franks National Opinion on immigration. Mr. Franks analysis of why Joe Biden and the Democrats are doing absolutely nothing to secure our borders is spot on. The so-called bipartisan border bill had absolutely nothing to do with border security as it was designed to legalize Biden’s open border policy. A policy that would allow virtually unlimited immigration from anywhere on the planet, lenient asylum requirements and a path to citizenship enabling voting rights. All at a huge cost to taxpayers throughout the country. Worse yet, a real threat to our national security. Having worked on CBP border technology programs for the last 10 years, my hats are off to all the highly dedicated CBP personnel trying to control the illegal inflow without the support of the current administration.

Clear the air
Re: the March 22 article “Leaders want new EPA rules dumped”
Reading this headline in the AZ Daily Star, I hoped the pun was not deliberate. As the article title states clearly, environmental protection, the task of the Environmental Protection Agency, holds little importance for our Republican legislators. Senate President Warren Petersen and his counterpart House Speaker Ben Toma claim the current rule for air quality particulates is “arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion, and not in accordance with law.” Don’t these politicians understand that their children and grandchildren will suffer the consequences of such short-sighted thinking just to appease the business sector in search of greater profits? They claim that portions of the pollution are “emissions from other countries that are blown here.” Who cares? The damage to the lungs of young children doesn’t lessen due to the particulates’ source. Contact these legislators at azleg.gov and demand increased, not reduced, EPA regulations for air quality.

Trump’s threats against judges — why?
It seems that any attempt to hold Trump accountable by our justice system is being met with scathing criticism or threats against judges. But why is this happening? Let’s view this from a psychological perspective. Sociopaths like Trump are known for having a grandiose self-image and many view themselves as a demigod. They also don’t have a conscience, resulting in their inability to determine right from wrong. Trump simply does not feel that he has done anything wrong. So he hunkers down, then attacks those he feels are corrupt. It’s delusional and paranoid. The judges are countering his grandiose self-image and lack of a conscience and that causes rage on his part. He’s forcibly being dragged into a reality that he rejects; the reality of those with a conscience. There is nothing more dangerous than trapping a sociopath/psychopath in a corner. Our judges have done just that. Trump is a danger to our society because he infects others with his madness.

Road rage
Arizona is ranked first for road rage, and something has to change.
Last week, while dropping off my son at school, he needed a moment to collect his things. The drop-off was completely empty, save for us and a car behind, yet the driver began honking, pulled up alongside me, and continued screaming and gesturing — simply because she had to either wait a few seconds or easily drive around me. A total meltdown, all over a kid taking a few seconds longer at school. The incident terrified my son and shook me.
I implore Tucsonans to consider if anger will do anything to improve the situation. Perhaps you are one second later because someone was driving slowly, or your ego is bruised because someone cut you off. Maybe they are slow because they’re a new driver. Maybe that person is having the worst day. For the safety of everyone on the road and in the community, please consider — is this really something to confront?
