We are deeply grateful to Rep. Raul Grijalva for speaking out against the Air Force expansion over Arizona skies. No one wants to experience a militarized murmuration at 100 feet above ground level, and no one wants more forest burned from flare drops. Even Republicans - State Rep. Dave Cook - have come out against this project, after his cabin was torched by the flare-caused Telegraph Fire in 2021. We also thank Senator Mark Kelly’s staff for reaching out to the Department of Defense to ask for an extension for public comments. Because of these members' work, DOD granted an additional 30 days to the public to weigh in, with the new deadline being November 12, 2024.
We are disappointed that no additional hearings will be held in Cochise County or on reservation lands. A truly democratic approach would be to do direct consultation with the tribal governments and their community members as well.
