The fifth annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta is moving — but not far.Â
The baseball showcase will be held Oct. 1-4 at Hi Corbett Field after being held for four years at Kino Stadium. This year's event features four Mexican Pacific League teams: the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, the Yaquis de Ciudad Obregon, the Cañeros de los Mochis, the Aguilas de Mexicali.Â
Organizers are planning similar events in Phoenix, El Paso and possibly Las Vegas in the fall, Mexican Baseball Fiesta president Mike Feder said.Â
"We believe it was essential that we continue this fun-filled multi-national and cultural event in Tucson," Feder said. "This tournament includes some of the most popular teams in Mexico. The Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta will continue to be a tradition in Tucson for many years to come."
The move to Hi Corbett made sense, Feder said, because of its central location and relationship with the city of Tucson and the UA, which plays its home baseball games there. Kino Stadium is operated by the county.Â
