Robyn Mundy recalls an article on the Bills website nearly two decades ago that highlighted Bills fans in every state.
Back then, she was the “only” Bills fan in the state of Wyoming. She’s hardly alone now.
Based on geotracking of fan hashtags of more than 70,000 tweets, betonline.ag has determined that the Bills are the most popular NFL team in New York State (duh!), but they also are the most popular team in Wyoming.
“There are Bills fans coming out of the closet here – more Bills fans now than Broncos fans,” said Mundy, who grew up in Springville and is the editor in chief of the Bills Mafia blog at BuffaloFambase.com. “I should start a Bills Backers Club here.”
Of course, Wyoming’s love of the Bills is tied to its love for Josh Allen, who spent his final three college seasons (thought he was injured for most of his first season) at the University of Wyoming before he was drafted No. 7 overall by the Bills in 2018.

“People here know I’ve been a lifelong Bills fan so I hear about and see the changes,” she said. “This entire state loves Josh Allen because there is only one university in the state. UB and the University of Wyoming are similar as far as being lower-tier D1 schools.
“Now people stop me – well, before the pandemic – and ask me about the Bills gear I wear or the sticker on my Jeep. Even the first question out of my doctor when I see him is to ask how Josh is doing.”
Mundy saw the love affair between Allen and Buffalo coming. On her blog, days after the 2018 draft, she wrote, “Get this, Buffalo. The people I’ve talked with from Wyoming since the draft are literally thrilled Josh Allen was drafted by the Bills because Buffalo is exactly the kind of place who will embrace our pride of Wyoming. We are a culture not dissimilar to BillsMafia and having been intimately immersed in both, I can honestly say I couldn’t be happier.”
She noted then that Laramie and Buffalo were similar in that outsiders laugh at each’s pitiful record of their respective sports teams and get no respect from a national perspective. Well, the Bills are 3-0 and among a handful of remaining undefeated teams and the respect is starting to come. Allen is a big reason why.
