Former Arizona Wildcat football player DaVonte’ Neal pleaded guilty last week the murder of a 25-year-old man, according court records
Neal pleaded guilty in Maricopa County Superior Court last Wednesday to a count of second-degree murder in the death of Bryan Burns. Burns was fatally shot in November 2017 after his car was side-swiped near Interstate 10 and Elliot Road in Tempe.
Neal was arrested in May of 2022, in Pocatello, Idaho, where he was employed at Idaho State University as an assistant football coach. He initially was charged with first-degree murder in 2022 in Maricopa County. Neal’s sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 4. He faces up to 20-25 years in prison.
Neal, a two-time Gatorade Arizona High School Football Player of the Year at Scottsdale Chaparral High School, was part of two state title teams in 2010 and 2011.

Neal first went on to play college football at Notre Dame, before transferring to Arizona where he played three from 2013-2016 as a wide receiver and defensive back.
