Canyon del Oro claimed the softball 4A state championship Tuesday night, but Class 6A and 5A high schools in Southern Arizona still have plenty to play for.
Third-seeded Tucson High shut out No. 15 Scottsdale Horizon 1-0 in a 6A elimination game Tuesday night to reach the semifinals against No. 7 Chandler Hamilton. Chandler already beat Tucson once in the third round last week in a convincing 7-0 showing, so the Badgers are now faced with back-to-back semifinal games Thursday and Friday night to reach the state final.
Two Southern Arizona teams also remain in the 5A bracket. Top-seeded Cienega has played the part, cruising to 6-0, 10-1 and 9-4 wins to reach the semifinals unscathed.
No. 3 Sahuaro has taken a similar route in a more tense fashion, winning games 2-1, 4-3 and 4-2 to reach Thursday's semifinals without a blemish.
