Nothing mirrors the success of Pima College’s 29-1 softball team more than the history of Tucson high school softball, which has 53 state championships dating to 1980.
The Aztecs, who had a 25-game winning streak last season and have gone 45-7 in the difficult ACCAC the last two years, are ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA under coach Rebekah Quiroz, who is in her seventh year on the job.
A two-time state championship infielder at Flowing Wells, Quiroz has built her juggernaut with Tucson players, and then some.
Designated hitter Alyssa Noriega is hitting .410 for Pima softball.
Pitcher Arianna Flores of Salpointe Catholic is 11-0.
Shortstop Natalya Rivera of Sunnyside is hitting .426.
First baseman Cheyanne Ortiz of Tucson High is hitting .400.
