The artists, coming from Italy, , San Francisco, San Diego and, naturally, Tucson, were selected by lottery. Twenty-seven entered, organizers said.
The Tucson Fringe Festival, founded in 2011 by Sara Tiffany and Yassi Jahanmir, is an unjuried, uncensored performing arts festival that follows the international fringe template: making it possible through economies of scale for artists to perform.That means that venue rentals costs are low and the organizers take nothing from the artist's earnings.

In its first four years, Tucson Fringe Festival has hosted 28 artists in 59 performances before 1,600 audience members and returned over $10,000 to the artists.
This year's festival will be held Jan. 15 through 17 at the following venues:
• Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St.
• Fluxx Gallery, 414 E. 9th St.
• ZUZI!, 738 N. Fifth Ave.
• Flycatcher, 360 E. 6th St.
Tickets are $10 for single ticket, $15 for two tickets, $80 for a festival pass.
