There's going to be a lot to wine about this summer.
Specifically, wine deals at local restaurants.
About eight years ago, Fox Restaurant Concepts started offering half-price bottles of wine one day a week at some of its restaurants during the summer.
Other restaurants soon followed with their own wine deals, offering everything from half-off to retail pricing. Retail-priced wines in stores tend to cost 200 to 300 percent more in a restaurant.
"It's my feeling that people should be able to drink good wine, whether it's high season or brutally hot and unpleasant. Forget the summer special — we're always affordable," said Doug Levy, chef and owner of Feast.
"The tourists are gone, so now it's time for the locals to reap the benefits," said Christopher Leonard, retail wine manager of VinTabla.
