After a long absence from the big screen in Tucson, Mexican comic Cantinflas returns to El Cine Plaza.
While the Tucson Spanish-language movie house is long gone, a series of three classic Mexican films is returning downtown.
For the second time this year, the Fox Tucson Theatre will host the Cine Plaza film series. It starts Sunday and continues Nov. 21 and 28.
In addition to Cantinflas, the series will include comedy films featuring Tin Tan and Adalberto Martínez, who was known as Resortes.
The black and white films will be the original, unedited Spanish versions. There are no subtitles.
Julie Gallego, a coordinator of the series, said the Fox hopes to present Mexican films every June and November. Cine Plaza at the Fox launched earlier this year with three Mexican films.

Sunday's film is "Al Son Del Mambo" (1950), featuring Resortes, mambo king Perez Prado and his orchestra, and famed Cuban rumba dancer, Amalia Aguilar.
Resortes plays a Mexican millionaire who travels to Cuba to escape his troubles. But once in Havana's famed dance clubs, trouble finds him.
The second film (Nov. 21) stars Mario Moreno, better known as Cantinflas, in "Ahí Está el Detalle" (1940).
Cantinflas becomes involved in a scheme of a Mexican millionairess to secure the family fortune. Cantinflas happily agrees, since he's having a romance with the woman's maid. But complications arise when Cantinflas' wife shows up.
The final film (Nov. 28) is "Calabacitas Tiernas" (1949), starring Germán Valdés as Tin Tan.
Tin Tan creates his "pachuco" role in this film, a street-wise character who is being used by a low-life club owner to hide money. Tin Tan goes along, spending money he doesn't have.
The films begin at 2 p.m. at the Fox, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets are $8, or$6 students.
