Straight from the hills of Asheville, N.C., comes John Vorus . . . didgeridoo player?
Didg masters aren't exactly typical in Appalachian country, but Vorus isn't exactly your typical musician.
Inspired by the vibrational patterns created by music and assisted by ambient icon Steve Roach of Tucson, Vorus created his debut CD, "Transmuting Currents," last spring.
"For five days I slept on his floor by night and ate veggies and dip and the occasional awesome Mexican meal while we were immersed in a weeklong marathon mix session," recalled the musician on his Myspace bio (www.myspace.com/ johnvorusaudio).
Vorus will show Tucson the results when he plays Solar Culture on Saturday. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $8. 884-0874.

Desert Divas go cruising in Tucson, not Caribbean
Lisa Otey and the Desert Divas' Caribbean cruise is off, so the ladies are bringing the cruise to Tucson.
On Saturday, the Divas will perform "Cruisin' With the Divas," an evening of pop, boogie-woogie, jazz and snappy showmanship that the ladies had planned to perform on the high seas.
The Divas are Diane Van Deurzen, Regina "The Queen" Wills, Liz McMahon, Anna Warr, Hurricane Carla (Carla Brownlee) and Lisa Otey — a cast of some of Tucson's most in-demand vocalists and musicians.
Saturday's concert is at 7 p.m. at the Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door; discounts available; order tickets online at www.lisaotey.com or call 370-5912.

Tool to hit Tucson Arena for concert in March
One of the most interesting things about Tool's 2006 album could be its math:
12 tracks, 77 minutes — with some songs droning on for 11 minutes.
By radio-music standards, that's about seven minutes too long.
But by fan standards, that's 11 minutes of crashing, thrashing, contemplative, reflective modern rock glory.
And if you're a Tool fan, here's a news flash:
The band will play the Tucson Arena March 21 to promote its self-produced fourth album, "10,000 Days."
Tickets for the concert ($39.50 and $49.50) will go on sale Saturday through Ticketmaster, 321-1000.
