Quilters are fabric addicts, says Nancy Landon, and about 700 of them get their fix through fellowship with the Tucson Quilters Guild.
That's where hobbyists and professionals learn new techniques, patterns and tricks for making quilted items, says Landon, the guild's president.
Details: Dues are $25 a year, payable in March. New members who join after that month pay again when the next March rolls around. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m., and the Tuesday just previous at 7 p.m., at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 3201 E. Presidio Road.
Sample meeting topics: Eight-pointed stars, Hawaiian quilting with appliqués, fabric fusing.

Year's biggest event: The Quilt Fiesta quilt show at the Tucson Convention Center, which includes hundreds of quilts on display, a boutique, a national speaker and vendors. The next Quilt Fiesta is Jan. 12-14.
Other fun stuff: Round robins during which members share their favorite aspects of quilting; an August all-day quilt-athon to make quilts for charity; quilting bees held throughout the Tucson area. The guild will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a party in December.
Latest buzz: Protecting copyrights on patterns and designs. "Quilters traditionally . . . would share the pattern," Landon says. "Now with marketing and publishing, you just can't share it, especially if you're going to sell your work."
Where members hang out: "Quilters are addicted to fabric," Landon says, "so that means going to the local quilt shop and buying wonderful new fabric." Stores include The Quilter's Market, Cactus Quilt Shop, The Quilt Basket and Bella Quiltworks.
