ATLANTIC CITY — Engaged in a tough primary election, Mayor Marty Small Sr. landed the backing of one of the Democratic Party’s most notable names Wednesday.
U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., announced his endorsement of the incumbent mayor, saying he looked “forward to continuing my work with Mayor Small to bring people together and deliver real results for the people of Atlantic City.”
Small, Pamela Thomas-Fields and James Whitehead are vying for the Democratic nomination July 7.
ATLANTIC CITY — With the primary election less than 30 days away, the only two women running for municipal office in the city stood side by side in front of City Hall in a showing of solidarity and support Tuesday.
“From improving public safety, to investing in infrastructure, to helping support the local economy and small businesses, Mayor Small has been keeping this great New Jersey city on the rise,” Booker said in a statement.
Booker served as mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013 before being elected to the Senate. He was a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020.

ATLANTIC CITY — Former Mayor Lorenzo Langford is throwing his support behind a one-time rival in the upcoming mayoral election.
Republican Thomas Forkin is running unopposed for the GOP nomination and will face the winner of the Democratic primary in November.
The mayoral candidates are running for a one-year unexpired term because of former Mayor Frank Gilliam Jr.’s resignation following a guilty plea in federal court last fall.
This year’s primary election will be entirely vote by mail due to the coronavirus pandemic. The deadline for voter registration is June 16.
